The PWR Racing Team has successfully completed another research and development project! The project "Integrated Driver Ergonomics System for the Formula Student Class Car" was funded under the Ministry of Science's "Student Research Clubs Create Innovations" program.
In Formula Student races, where cornering forces can reach up to 3G, comfort and safety are the foundations of success on the track. Even the slightest discomfort directly reduced the driver's concentration level and increased reaction time. The funds obtained allowed us to revolutionize our approach to ergonomic design.
How did the funding impact our development?
• Ergonomic Research: We utilized a specialized Ergostand and eye-tracking technology to precisely analyze optimal body positioning, hand positioning on the steering wheel, and viewing angles.
• Fatigue Measurement: Using a skin galvanometer, we continuously monitored the driver's physiological responses, allowing us to objectively assess their comfort level while driving.
• Precision and advanced materials: The production molds for the ergonomic components were created based on 3D scans of the drivers and milled on precision 5-axis machines.
• Safety standards: Key protective structures are reinforced with aramid fibers. This material meets the stringent UL94 V-0 flame retardancy standard.
• Telemetry protection: We incorporated an innovative copper mesh into the composite structure, reducing electromagnetic interference. This guaranteed reliable, smooth operation of sensitive telemetry systems and real-time data exchange with the race engineer.
The knowledge we gained and the systems we developed were implemented in our fully electric and autonomous RT16e.
